HOPE FOR TRADE GROWTH. Received September 28, 10.50 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 27. “Some may wonder why, at present, we should spend nearly £1,000,000 on such a ship,” said Mr Irvine Geddes at the mercantile lunch aboard the new liner Orion. “The answer is that we are engaged in continuing our business, confident that when the world returns to sanity Australia’s prosperity and expansion will perhaps need even larger ships.” Mr Ramsay MacDonald proposing a toast to the success of the Orion, alluded to the absence of Mr S. M. Bruce and eulogised the ability with which he was discharging his great duty at Geneva.
