ROD AND GUN SPORT

ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Wellington Ticclimatisation Society was held last evening, Mr R. W. Priest presiding. Also present were Messrs 11. W. Scott, C. Page, W. Procter, W. E. Ward, W. H. Seward, W. Rowlands, E. E. Ward. D. A. Scott, T. Andrews, W. Woodmore, and W. H. Hosking, C. Nielsen, W. It. Procter (secretary). The chairman reported that six pheasants had been allocated to the district, these having arrived the day after the last meeting The secretary of the Wellington Society advised that the fish committee were meeting on the 23rd for the purpose of allocating rainbow fry, of which there were approximately 200,000. There were very few portions of the district interested in rainbow fry.; they could be narrowed down to the Manawatu and Rangitikei. An estimate of a fair proportion was requested.

The chairman advised that he had made an application for 25.000 fry, and more' if these were available.

The manager of the gasworks (Mr J. W. Muir), in reply to a letter from the branch, stated that if there was any overflow from the works into the drain to the river it would be stopped. He, however, pointed out that it was not possible to prevent water from the yard, when it was raining, running into the drain. This -water would contain some contamination due to oxide of iron and tar matter contained in and around the yard, but other than this every effort was made, and would be maintained, to stop any pollution of the drain to the river.

The chairman commented that the reply was very satisfactory. Arising out of the last meeting of the council at Wellington, the chairman advised that the secretary of the Marton sub-committee, in response to overtures from the Lower Rangitikei Rod and Gun Club to the last meeting at Palmerston North, had been instructed to call a special general meeting of the Marton sub-commit-tee.

The chairman stated that the Feeding and District Society had declined amalgamation with the Wellington Society.
