ALL SAINTS’ MEN’S CLUB.
Wednesday’s function of All Saints’ Men’s Club was responsible for a large attendance of members, several visitors being present. The president (Rev. Canon G. Y. Woodward) was in the chair and gave a welcome to all. The item of the evening was a reunion of past and present members. Among the apologies received was one from Rev. J. R. Neil, of Lower Hutt. Mr R. S. Robinson, one of the foundation members, gave an address dealing with the old C.E.M.S. branch and its transition into the present club. It was an interesting historical interlude. Rev. P. Wiltshire (vicar of Ponga* roa), another foundation member, gave an inspiring address, his subject dealing with the new Oxford Group Movement. The speaker traversed his experiences at the recent house party oi the movement in Wellington, giving details of the inner working and a general outline of the subject. He said he was very enthusiastic in the cause and believed it would work wonders in Church life, being undenominational in character and officials. Both speakers received an attentive hearing and were accorded a hearty vote oi thanks. The items were contributed by Mr Voss and Mr F. Hubbard (elocution), Mr A. Penfold (song), and the Orpheus Male Choir. All were much appreciated. Mr C. W. Teppett presided at the piano. Among the visitors were Mr G. M. Lethbridge, of IVlarton, who also spoke in connection with Iris experiences in the Oxford Group Movement. The president referred in appreciative terms to the function and mentioned the diamond jubilee of the Church next week. Details of the men s service on October 6 ivere also announced. Excellent supper arrangements by the stewards (Messrs Ramsay, Moxon and Young) were done justice to, the evening closing with tho usual social chat and cards.
