RETURNS FOR HALF YEAR. LARGER EMPIRE HEALING. The tendency for Great Britain to increase its trade with -the Empire is again shown in overseas trade figures for the six months ended June, 1935. Exports of British goods to Empire countries for the first half of the current year totalled £95,900,000, compared with £85,500,000 in the same period last year. Imports from Empire countries were valued at £143,900,000, against £140,700,000. Britain’s imports from foreign countries totalled £215,500,000, compared with £221,500,000, but exports of British goods to foreign countries increased from £104,200,000 to £110,600,000 Thus Britain’s total export trade was £206,500,000, compared with £189,700,000 in the first half of 1934, an increase of £16,800,000, or 9 per cent. New Zealand took £5,900,000 worth of British goods during the six-months period, compared with £5,000,000 worth last year. Imports from New Zealand were valued at £23,000,000, against £26,100,(XX).. Of the increase of about £10,000,000 in exports to all Empire countries, the African possessions accounted for £4,000,000 and Australia and India for about'~£l, each.
