BULK POWER CHARGES.
NO REDUCTION LIKELY. PUKEKOHE, Sept. 26. The opinion that a reduction in the charges for bulk electricity to power boards was unlikely for some years was expressed by the chairman of the Franklin Electric Power Board (Mr J. Dean)- at a meeting. Mr Dean said that accumulated losses made a reduction impossible, unless the Government was prepared to transfer a large amount of money from the Consolidated Fund. As some of the larger boards owned their own power plants, they would be able to bargain with the Government over the charge, while the smaller boards would have to carry the burden. The only way for the smaller boards to be independent, said Mr Dean, would be for them to Combine and erect a plant.
