WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND . PRICES. There was a weak and uncertain tono in the Wellington stock and share markets yesterday, directly attributable to tho Italian situation. Buyers were nervous, and many issues were marked down to levels well below those ruling a month ago. Business was extremely dull. Government loans were quoted yesterday at steady rates. Business done lato on Saturday’ was reported in tho 4 per cents., 1940. at £lO2 ss, and the 3? per cent, stock, 1938-52, at £lO9. Bank shares were weak. Commercial of Australia, done late on Saturday at 16s sd, were wanted yesterday at. 16s. Commercial of Sydney were marked down to £l7, National of Australasia, £5 paid, to £6 3s 6d, and Reserve Bank to £6 ss. Unions were unchanged at £8 17s 6d, and Now Zealand, D mortgage, were quoted at 33s 6d. In the financial section Mortgage Corporation eased to business at 5s Bd. buyers staying in at 5s 7d. Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-op. preference were sought at 2s. Dalgety wore Is off at £8 3s. N.Z. Loan and Mercantile were wanted at £35 10s, sellers asking £42. N.Z. Guarantee Corporation were a point better at 5s 4d, sellers 5s Bd. Wellington Gas. preference, sold at 24s 9d. South British Insurance were weaker at 92s fid. sellers 93s 6d. Meat freezing issues showed little quotable change. There was a good inquiry for brewery issues, mostly at. lower levels. Buyers wore bidding for New Zealand at 50s. Staples at 30s, Tooths at 51s 9d. and Tooheys at 27s 9d. Tni were quoted at 42s 6d, sellers 43s 6d._ Miscellaneous, industrial, and trading issues were dull and weaker. Anthony Hordern eased to 17s 6d. sellers 18s, and British Tobacco to 375. Colonial Sugar were marked down to £42. sellers holding for 20s better. Broken Hill Proprietary were wantted at 51s. ex rights in tho now _sha.ro issue, and 17s 6d was hid for the rights. Dunlop Perdriau sold at 14s 4d, and Procora Bread vendors at 40s. Mining issues were neglected.
