Dalgcty and Cov., Ltd., Dunedin, report: -We held our third sale for the season on September 20, when the large quantity of 58,000 skins was offered by the eight selling brokers. Of this, we again had the bulk in our catalogue with 35,600 skin*. These were drawn from all parts of New Zealand although the quantity of South Island skins was not so large as at our August sale. We had a representative show of North Island skins, including some very large lines of Auckland, Wanganui, Gisborne, and Taranaki skins, from which districts we have handled the great bulk of the catch for some years. Generally the quality of the offering was not up to the_ last sale, a big proportion of the pelts being badly marked and obviously late caught. This also applied to Otago skins, of which this season we have handled probably 75 per cent, of those which have come to auction. It was anticipated that the heavy offering would havo a weakening effect on the market, especially as London cables aro still not optimistic about prospects for dark colours. There were, however, several large orders in the market, of which our large catalogue got the full benefit, and wo arc able to quote prices, on an averagOj unchanged. Our best lots of blues, inferior to last sale, were 9d lower at up to 15s 6d, against 16s 3d last sale, but our main lines of light colours were frequently 6d higher and our large linos of darks wore often Id to 3d higher. Some of our best sales were:— Blues: 132 at 15s fid, 57 at 15s; 77 at 14s lid, 73 at 14s 9d (N.ls.), 314 at 14s 6d, 74 at 14s, 153 at 13s 6d (N.ls.).
