AUCKLAND, Sept. 23.
The body of an unknown man was discovered on the beach near the Stanley Ray wharf at 5.15- on Saturday morning. A luggage tag in the inside pocket was inscribed “T. W. Smith, P. 0., Sydney.” The description of the man is; Height, 6tt. 2in.; weight, lost 71b; age, between 55 and 60; fresh complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair turning grey, heavy 7 features; a large wart about the size of a marble on the left wrist. The man was wearing new brown check tweed trousers, a brown vest and brown double-breasted tweed coat, a white shirt with pink and green stripes, grey socks and black boots. The sum of £1 0s 6d was found in the man’s pockets, a pair of gold-rim-med spectacles in a leather case and a return Auekland-Devonport ferry ticket. There were also two handkerchiefs. One of the man's eyes was blackened. This may have been caused by contact with something in the water. No marks of foul play were to be found on the body and there are no suspicious circumstances. Death is believed to have been the result of drowning.
