Experiments to ascertain whether pigeons released at high altitudes can be used as message carriers have been Made in Russia from an aeroplane flying at a height of 4j miles. The birds, it was found, dropped like stones for a distance of three miles and then took wing. A new material that can he used in place of cotton wool for surgical dressings has been' discovered by a Russian doctor. Algimine, as the material has been named, is made from fibrous water-weed.
