DISPUTE ON VESSEL.

WAIRUNA AT VANCOUVER

ECHO OF STRIKE

Received September 24, 11.50 a.m. VANCOUVER, Sept. 23. The crew of the Wairuna, from Australia, refused to give steam to permit of the unloading of the cargo because they alleged the handling of the cargo would be unfair, claiming it had been handled by strike-bi;eakers during the longshoremen’s strike inaugurated on June 4.

One member of the Wairuna’s crew is in hospital here and his place must be taken by a seaman nominated by the Seafarers’ Industrial Union and acceptable to the crew. When the matter is cleared up the crew will decide whether they will tako the Wairuna home or tic up at Vancouver.
