TREMENDOUS WAVE.

ALARM ON VESSEL. PASSENGERS’ DISCOMFORT. Received September 24, 10.45 a.m. BRISBANE, Sept. 24. A tremendous wave broke over the Changte off Newcastle on Saturday night, smashing cabin windows and shattering interior doors and walls. The ship’s carpenter was seriously injured. Mrs A. McKeller, of New Zealand, said the passengers were dining when a great volume of water rushed down the stairway and swirled about their feet. Women screamed, and there was a rush for the deck. Other passengers spoke of the plight of the women and children in their cabins, where they were found in their drenchod night attire. . Many suffered from shock.
