SANDON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SANDON, Sept. 23Tho first birthday. of the Sandon Girl Guides was observed in the Town Ilall on Friday evening. The celebration took the. form of a tea and this was followed by a public concert given by the Guides. Ihe evening proved a groat success, and the committee responsible are to bo congratulated on tlieir efforts. The Guides bad as their guosts Miss Willis (District. Commissioner), the Sandon Boy Scouts and the parents. Tho beautiful birthday cake, made by Mrs A. Kilpatrick, was cut by the commissioner, assisted by the Guide captain (Miss M. MacFarlaiie). Tho Guides were then presented with service stars and the time between tho tea and the concert was spent in competitions and games which were enjoyed by all. The concert drow a good attendance and special mention must be made of tho stage effects, winch were arranged by Mr and Mrs H. V. Bond. Tho programme consisted of tho following items: —Pianoforte solo, Guido Shirley Bond; descriptive song, Guides Margaret Coulter, Dulcio Fl.vgcr, and Mildred Oniric; guitar solo, Mr A. Rowe; playetto, “George Washington,” Guides Ngairc Lawrence, Sheila Grace and Florrio Lammas; tap dance, Guides Margaret Coulter and Dulcie Flyger; vocal solo, Miss N. Masters- folk dances, the Guides; elocutionary item -Miss J. Maunder; playetto, “The Tragedy of tho Pin,” Guides Margaret Coulter, Doris Pearce; Pearl Meyer and Florrio Lammas; pianoforte solo. Guide Mavis Francis; ’cello solo, Miss J. Maunder ; poi dances, tho Guides; vocal solo, Miss N. Masters; elocutionary item, Miss J. Maunder; camp fire, the Guidos. At tho conclusion of the evening Captain MaoFarlano expressed thanks to the performers, Mrs B. Lawrence for teaching the poi dances, and Mr and Mrs Bond for tlieir arranging of tho stage and the lighting effects.
