DIRECTOR RETIRING
IMPORTANT CHANGES,

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 23. Important staff changes were decided by the Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College at Lincoln at a special meeting to-day. These include the termination of the appointment of the director (Professor It. E. Alexander, C.MIG.) as from December 31, 1936, and the appointment of two professors of agriculture. Applications for the two professorships in agriculture will be called early next year. One of the professors will be appointed director of the college. The board met in committee and the following statement was subsequently released : —“That, in order to continue the proper balance between the plant husbandry and the animal husbandry departments, the board has decided to appoint two professors of agriculture, and that to facilitate this arrangement the engagement of the director should be terminated; that Mr J. W. Calder be appointed acting head of the plant husbandry and agricultural botany department at an increased salary, Mr Cakler to have as assistant a temporary lecturer who will receive a salary of £3OO. Mr Calder and his assistant will begin their duties on January 1, 1936.”
