DROUGHT IN OTAGO
HEAVY STOCK LOSS. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sept. 23. North Otago is still drought-stricken and concern is being felt bv the farming community. The rainfall experienced in tlie district since the beginning of the year has been well below the average and unless a change occurs soon crops will be seriously affcctod. During the last few weeks rapid changes in temx>erature have brought up threatening weather, hut in all only 60 points of rain were recorded. There has been high mortality, in lambs this season and the dry conditions have been largely responsible for this setback toNarmers. One farmer said lie had lost more lambs this season than for the whole of last year. Water is again being carried in many parts for household purposes and the outlook generally is serious.
