RONGOTEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). RONGOTEA, Sept. 21. The Rongotea School Committee met on Thursday evening. There were present Messrs W. Amies (chairman), J. Duke, A. Hill, W. AJaiheson. E. Ckoad (secretary) and R. H. Allen (headmaster). The school opened for the third term with a roll number o[ 85, the first week’s average attendance being 78.9. Several matters requiring attention came before the committee, and the chairman -was authorised to get the heating apparatus attended to, and various other items of repair work also. Owing to the continued wet weather, the grounds have been in an unsuitable condition for planting but Arbor Day is to be celebrated on Wednesday no.xt, and among others a Jubilee commemoration tree is to be planted, the selection of a suitable English tree being left to Mr Croad. Parentis and friends are cordially invited to attend. The school will close on a Friday for the Palmerston North Spring Show. Accounts totalling £8 14s lid were passed for payment. Mr J. C. Glover was a successful exhibitor at the Morton Bulb Show, winning the Alan Gibson trophy for the most points in the amateur section and trophy for the best trumpet daffodil in the show. A successful concert under the auspices of tlTc Rongotea Women’s Institute was held on Friday evening. Tho proceeds were in aid of the Willard Homo. Palmerston North. The Ford Entertainers provided much of the programme, while community singing was led. by Mr J. Selwyn. AI iss Ponketh was presented with a bouquet of spring blooms, it being her birthday. Local talent was responsible for a one act play, “Patchwork,” the cast being: Mcsdanies R. Scolt, A. Moreom, T, Collins, and Misses Rower and L. Davis. At the conclusion of Ihc concert Mrs Caverhill thanked those who had assisted. Supper was handed round and then a brief dance concluded the entertainment. A number of local residents journeyed to Wanganui to ; day to attend the funeral of the late Mr N. S. Hogg.
