ATTACK ON CONSTABLE.
MAN SENT TO GAOL. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, Sent. 23. Adam Pirrie, aged 31, of was sentenced to-day to three weeks imprisonment for assaulting Constable Patterson. The police stated that Constable Patterson, at 11.15 p.m. on Saturday, was called to the Blackball Hotel, and admitted by the licensee, walked through the premises to the backyard, where accused was in t ambush” and armed with a picket irom the fence. He aimed a blow at the constable’s head, but Constable Patterson saw it coming and received the blow on the arm. He "rappled with accused and both struggled on the ground. Other men arrived, apparently to assist accused, and the constable called for the licensee, who prevented an ugly situation.
