MINERS’ PETITION.
HONOUR FOR DUCHESS OF PORTLAND. The Duke of Portland, speaking at Welbeck Abbey, said that it was the result of a petition sent by Nottinghamshire miners to the King that the Duchess of Portland was mentioned m the Jubilee honours. The Duchess was created a Dame of the British Empire, and the Duke said that the miners sent the petition asking the King to confer an honour upon the Duchess in recognition of her work for miners and their families in Notts, Derbyshire, Yorkshire, and even farther afield.
