“THE FRIENDLY ROAD.”
RELAY FROM MEETING. CONDITIONS FOR PERMIT. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 24. “A summary of the proposed speeches is necessary before proper consideration can be given,” was the text of a telegram received this morning by station IZB, “The Friendly Road,” from the Broadcasting Board in reply to telegrams requesting permission to broadcast the Town Hall meeting tonight arranged by a group of ministers with reference to the administration of social welfare, being a reply to the Minister of Employment's criticism of the earlier meeting. Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour, the licensee of IZB, forwarded a telegram in reply: “As the speakers, as advertised, will refer to social conditions and make a plea for social justice, I request urgently definite approval or a refusal.” Mr Scrimgeour says the board must have known the condition was impossible of fulfilment. “I take the reply to mean a refusal. If so, it will be another illustration of the ridiculous muzzle imposed on the microphone,” lie declared.
