a, , „„ WOODVILLE, Nov. 12. About 40 returned soldiers were present at a simple and brief ceremony at'Fountaine Square to commemorate Armistice Day on Sunday. The scholars of the Presbyterian and Holy Trinity Churches Sunday ochooJs were also present. Two minutes silence passed and Mr D. ICeay soundod the “Last Post,” followed by a short prayer by Rev. G. Knowles-Smith A wreath of poppies, made by Mrs H. P. Horne, was placed on the Cenotaph, after which the members of the R.S.A. marched oft to attend church parade at tho SalvuP ol j A ™y Citadel. The day was marked m the churches by special services The chairman (Mr A. Dickins) announced at the last meeting of the Papatawa School Committee that the school had been raised a grade and also that the headmaster, Mr M. Munro, had been promoted to the new grade position. The committee unanimously approved, as they considered that Mr Munro well deserved any promotion. He has had approximately six years’ service at the Papatawa School to his credit. Arrangements were made for Mr Munro to procure the school prizes to be presented at the annual Christmas tree gathering which is a treat provided for the children by tho members of the Papatawa Women’s Institute. .In their match _ against Dannevirke on Saturday, the Woodville cricket team batted first and made 68, the only doublefigure scorers being Stanborough (28) and Gallon (14). llendy was Dannevirke’s outstanding bowler, securing five wickets for eleven runs, including the “hat trick.” Other bowlers were; Pickard (2 for 20), Allan (1 for 11), and Brogan (1 for 9). For Dannevirke, Allan hit up 40 runs, with Forsythe making 21. Power and Mair were Woodville brightest bowlers, taking 5 for 31 and 3 for 30 respectively. In tho second innings. Woodville lost cue wicket for 25, with Power (17), P. Brandon (not out, 6) and extras 2. The match will be concluded at Woodville next Saturday. A rinks tournament was held at the Woodville Bowling Club’s green on Saturday afternoon, the playing conditions being excellent. Eight rinks participated, the winners being Kenyon, Offwood, Norman, Dr Mules (skip), with three wins and no losses.
