METHODIST CHURCH.

SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY

The annual prize-giving and anniversary celebrations of the Methodist Sunday School was held in the Sunday school room last night, a large number of pupils of the school, together with students of the Methodist Bible class being present. Rev. E. 0. Blamires presided, and following the tea a short service was held in the church, where special solos and choir items were presented. Vocal solos were rendered by Miss P. Blamires and Douglas Taylor ; pianoforte solos by Dorothy "Wood and Rex Flavell; and a recitation by Edward McPhail.

A report on the year’s activities of the Sunday school was given by the superintendent (Mr C. E. Taylor), and Rev. E. T. Olds, of Napier, gave an address to the adults. Prize-giving followed, Mr J. G. McVicar handing the prizes to the successful students. WOMEN’S MISSIONARY UNION.

The auxiliary of the Feilding Methodist "Women’s Missionary Union met last week, Mrs E. 0. Blamires presiding. Arrangements for the annual garden party were discussed, a ready response being given by ladies for assistance with the various stalls, etc. Committees were set up to canvass for gifts for the stalls. An address on the business of the recent conference of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Union was given by Mrs Blamires and Mrs C. E. Taylor, Feilding delegates to the conference. Mrs Taylor spoke chiefly on the business aspect of the conference, while Mrs Blamires gave an interesting account of the more intensely spiritual side, although, as one speaker remarked, the whole tone of the conference was such that it was really impossible to completely separate the one from the other. The spirit of devotion permeated the whole of the proceedings. It was a pleasure to note an increase in finance for the past year. The M.W.M.U. had also taken on added responsibility this year. Three sisters in the Solomon Islands were now being fully supported by the union, apart from New Zealand workers, and two more nurses were to be sent forward this year and supported by the union. Mrs Blamires gave brief accounts of the addresses given by the president and other speakers at the conference, who had stressed the great need for a deeper spiritual life and a more effectual and fervent prayer life; that by our sincere prayers and our loyalty a lid support we may keep faith with those whose wonderful work and sacrifice should be a direct challenge to each one of us.

Prayers concluded an enjoyable afternoon.
