TE ARAKURA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TB ARAKURA, Nov. 12.

On Saturday afternoon a large number of the members of the Te Arakura Women’s Institute and their friends motored to Ohakea and spent a delightful entertainment at the residence of Mrs .J. A. Bailey. Mrs Whisker (vice-president) apologised for tho absence of the president (Mrs Griffith) owing to illness. The weather being gloriously fine, all greatly enjoyed strolling around the spacious grounds, admiring the gay flower borders and the flowering shrubs. Enjoyable games of tennis and croquet were played, wli those looking on enjoyed a oomfortablo 6eat under the shade of large oak .trees. The monthly competition, which was for the best and most ecomonical menu for five adults for one week, will be judged by Mrs Bailey and Misses Bailey, and the results will be announced later. Afternoon tea was served out-of-doors, enabling everyone to enjoy the garden and the sunshine at its best. Final arrangements were made regarding the institute’s social and dance. Mrs Thomas heartly thanked Mrs Bailey and Misses Bailey for the delightful afternoon tea and entertainment they had provided. The next monthly meeting will be held on December 12, when the competitions will be, for seniors, a jar of gooseberry jam, and for juniors, a eponge sandwich without butter, jam filling. The demonstration will be on lampshade making, and the hostesses will be Mesdames J. J. Hume, Young, Daniels, Hansen, and Misses Hansen and Dunn. A meeting of parents was held at tho 6chool last week, when it was decided to hold a children’s fancy dress ball on December 7 in aid of tho school funds. The following members of the committee were appointed* Mesdames J. H. Bennett, Lower, Johnston, Fil'th, Danielson, Dudson, Griffin, Thomas, and J. J. Hume, Misses Bailey, Carty and Hansen.
