FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”)

When Sporting Blood won the Canter bury Cup it marked his fourth successive win.

Hazoor found the two miles of the New Zealand Cup a little beyond him, but he ran a creditable second in the Canterbury Cup over a mile and a half. Sweet Agnes was withdrawn from the New Zealand Cup, but the trouble could not have been serious for she won the Jockey Club Handicap at Riccarton on. Wednesday very nicely. .Variant, the Limond —Motley' filly, pruved her superiority over Mother Superior in the New Zealand Oaks, and it is evident that a mile is the latter’s favourite distance. Variant is an elder sister to the Awapuni colt Legatee. The half-brother to Seatown, Sea Fox, was somewhat of a disappointment when raced in this island, but he won the Ashley Handicap at Biccarton on Wednesday in good style, so it may be that he is now coming right. Seatown was a high-class performer in his day. Fracas, the winner of the Avon Handicap at Biccarton on Wdensday, represents a. combination of the best Stonyhurst_ families. Her sire, Winning Hit, is by Autumnus from Winning Way, while her dam, Scrimmage, is by Antagonist from Mad Whirl.

Miss Lu was only produced once at the Avondale meeting and she put up a creditable performance by finishing third to Silver Jubilee and Prince Acre in the Mt. Albert Handicap. She should not be long off the winning list. Having his first outing in public, the Australian-bred- two-year-old Triume is •tated to have made a good impression at Avondale when ho ran Gay Shiek to a neck in the Nursery Handicap. He is a particularly well developed youngster possessing a nice smooth action. Royal Artist, the half-brother to Boudoir, was confidently supported for the Plumpton Handicap at Avondale, but Master Norval proved to be a little too good for him. Half-way down the straight Boyal Artist looked like winning, but he lacked that extra bit of dash to make victory possible. The horses Orac, Lionheart, and Teak, who have been in Australia for several months, returned to Auckland on Wednesday morning. Their trainer, A. P. Brady, returned also.

The Takanini mentor, F. Smith, has two additions to his team, these being Fei Mah, a two-year-old owned by Mr M. J. Moodabo and formerly trained by B. S. Bagbv at Ellerslie. King Brierly, a half-brother, by King' Lu, to Master Brierly, is also a newcomer to Smith’s stable.

By finishing second in the Grey Lynn Hurdle Bace, at Avondale, King Win put up a creditable showing, as he had only

started once previously in a hurdle event. is a big horse, possessing plenty of speed, and should do well in hurdle events on the country circuit when he has had a bit more experience. Gay Marigold, a dual winner at Avondale, was responsible for two useful performances, though the field she beat on the second day was by no means a strong one. A pleasing feature about Gay Marigold’s victories was the solid manner in which she finished on in her races. Summed up on her latest form this mare is likely to win a good handicap before the season is much older.
