Comment was made on the high price, an average of 18s 3d, received for a lino of 4,500 mixed hoggets sold at Gore.
Paderewski, the famous pianist, was spending three weeks at Rotorua. The effect of the Russo-Japanese War was shown on mining conditions in New Zealand. It was stated from Thames that little attention was being paid at Horne to New Zealand mining, and it was improbable that any substantial amount of capital would be available until a more stable market was established.
The Admiral of the Russian Baltic fleet which was being convoyed East by the British fleet following the Dogger Bank outrage had informed the British fleet to keep off or his fleet would fire. The British reply was: “Fire Away.”
