MIGRATION TO DOMINION.

CONFERENCE BEING CALLED

Per Press Association

WELLINGTON, Nov. 7,

To consider the question of Empir* migration as it affects New Zealand in relation to its obligations and privileges as a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations, a conference of representatives of organisations and of individuals is to be held in Wellington on November 21. The conference has been called by Messrs A. Leigh Hunt and C. S Falconer, on behalf of the Dominion Settlement Association,, and by Messrs W. J. Holdswortli and N. G. Gribble, on behalf of the New Zealand Land Settlement and Development League. The visit to the Dominion within the next few weeks of Mr Malcolm MacDonald (Under-Secretary of Dominion Affairs) has instigated the move:

The invitations to the conference state that the question is likely to come under two heads: What action, if any, should be taken by the respective governments and what action, if any, can be taken by organiastions or groups, with or without Government co-opera-tion ?_ In connection with the first head it is considered that steps should be taken to collect data of the Dominion’s resources and arrange to meet Mr MacDonald, and in connection with the second head attention is drawn to t'“ e i' e P°rt of a committee of the House of Commons on the subject, which the two New Zealand organisations interesting themselves in the subject have had reprinted. The invitation states that further business of the conference will be to arrange for a permanent organisation to care for immigration in this country. Representatives of primary producers’ organisations, secondary industries, cnambers of commerce, social organisations, churches and district progress organisations and a number of individuals iu e i be< T n ejected with movent nts likely to become interested in a beTinvited ment ° f immi 6 ration have
