ARMOURY ON FIRE.

AT CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL. SUSPICIONS OF INCENDIARISM. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 8. A report furnished to the police indicates that an attempt was made to burn down the armoury at the Christchurch Boys’ High S chon I early yesterday morning. Shortly before 6 o’clock, the groundsman, when going to collect some horses, passed the corner of the armoury, which is a wooden shed. At that time there was no sign of fire, but when he returned a quarter of an hour later smoke was issuing from the armoury, in which are stored 500 rifles valued at several thousand pounds. The groundsman and caretaker, with the aid of a hose, were able to subdue the flames, which were breaking through the floor in three places. Colour is lent to the theory that someone tried to burn down the building by the presence under the floor of piled-up heaps of burning debris.
