REPLY TO NATIVE COMMISSION

FORMER MINISTER’S DEFENCE

The whole of the sitting- of the House of Representatives yesterday was taken up with the debate on the report of the Native Affairs Commission and the Leader of the Opposition’s censure motion against the Government. The principal feature of the debate was the lengthy speech of the former Native Minister, Sir Apirana Ngata, who defended liis actions in reply to certain allegations in the Commission’s report, and appealed for a broader outlook on Native problems.
