MEETING OF TRUSTEES

ACTIVITIES DURING MONTH

The monthly meeting of the Maleerua Drainage Board was held to-day, Mr W. Jackson presiding. Others present were Messrs G. Larsen, W. JRoss, T. D. Lynch, E. E. Mabin and J. D. Aitchison. Leave of absence for a month was granted the chairman (Mr H. Seifert). , The deputy-chairman (Mr Jackson) cordially welcomed the two newly elected trustees, Messrs Ross and Aitchison, and expressed the hope that they would have a useful and enjoyable term of office. Both briefly replied. “The protecting and planting of willows at Corlett’s will be completed this week, and repairs to the protection of Coley’s bend will be started next week, further erosion having occurred in the upper portion of this work,” reported the overseer (Mr I - V. Tucker). “The fencing at AVhitanui was temporarily replaced pending the arrival of the truck of posts; these posts have now arrived and a permanent fence will he erected at once. The protection at Kemp’s bend lias been extended for a further six chains up stream, and 2300 willows planted and fenced. The planting of the whole length of Kemp’s down to low water lias been carried out. In all cases willows planted this season have made exceptionally good growth, there having been more rain and less westerly winds than in previous years. “The Mangaone pump is out of action, a bottom beating evidently seizing and, although I have freed it to some extent, ' a thorough overhauling is necessary before it can be used It would be advisable to have the Okuku pump overhauled at the same time, as the vibration is so great that the controls will be damaged if run to any extent. As regards the Mukapai pump I wish to know whethei the power line is to be kept in repair or taken down.” The overseer’s report was adopted, and authority was given for repairs to the pumps. The overseer reported that the truck mileage for the month was 461. The matter of allowing a rebate on rates to be levied for the year 193536 was held over.
