WOODVILLE, Nov. 5.

As a farewell to Mr C. G. Wright, who lias been transferred to Frankton Junction, a smoke concert was held in the railway social hall on Saturday evening. The gathering was representative of practically all branches of the service and was presided over by Mr C. Twaddle. Community singing was enjoyed for a period, while those who contributed items were Messrs Gaudie (Palmerston North), W. J. Currin, J. Russell, C. Armstrong, G. King, J. Redmond, J. Bryson, A. E. Johnson, C. G. Wright, G. Slack and L. Hurley. A presentation wts made to Air Wright. With two wickets down for 208 runs Woodville High School declared _in their match with Eketahuna High School on Saturday and eventually won by an innings and 103 runs. A feature of the game was the remarkable batting of the Woodville boys, notably R. Anderson, who made 122 not out. Eketahuna were dismissed for 38 in the first innings, the top score of 10 being secured by Twentyman. Patterson took five wickets for 3 runs, Anderson 3 for 4, and L. Bailey 2 for 11. The second innings yielded 57, to which Twentyman contributed 23 and Boyes 12. Anderson took 5 for 10, C. Bailey 2 for 11, L. Bailey 2 for 13, and Patterson 1 for 13. The first matches in the Hunter Shield competition were concluded on Saturday, Old Boys beating Woodville by nine wickets. In their first day’s play Woodville made 50, and Old Boys 99, while Woodville had three wickets down for 19 runs in. the second strike. Continuing on Saturday, the Woodville innings close-d at 66, leaving Old Boys only 17 runs to make. This was done with the loss of one wicket.

The first round of the Stockwell Cup angling competition was decided during the week-end. Fishing a stretch of the Ma.nawatu River, Dannevirke beat Woodville by 23 fish to 12. The Woodville team comprised Messrs F. Ebbett, P. G. Wigzell, F. Blatchford and E. Pritchard.
