(From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, April 9. Tho monthly meeting of the Women's Institute wan held on Thursday, Mrs Marurnaru presiding over a fair attendance. Tho president announced the personnel of the new committee, and welcomed now members. Members were asked to bring competition potatoes as eoon as possible. It was decided to donate 10s 6d to the funds of the Free Ambulance. A competition made up from the words “Bulls Women’s Instituc” was won by Miss Wicks, and a vote of thanks was passed to Miss Richards for organising it. The committee served afternoon tea, and Mr S. Mason gave an interesting and instructive address on dahlia cultivation. Next month’s competition will be for a plate of pikelets. A motor collision occurred on Sunday morning at the intersection of tho Turakina and Pukepapa roads between a motor truck driven by Mr G. Fitches, of Turakina, and a sedan car, of which Mr Dick, junr., of Marton, was tho driver. The sedan car was badly damaged, one side being practically torn off, but the truck escaped practically without a scratch. Mr Fitches sustained a severe cut on his hand, but the other persons concerned were unhurt. The Defence Rifle Club fired at 300, 500 and 600yds on tho open range on Saturday. The weather was fine, and scores as follow : P. Thorby, 34 —35 —34 103; L. Huddleston. 33—34 —32 —99; D. Lundy, 331 —32 —33—98; F. Simpson, 30 —28 —32—90; G. Lucas, 29—30—28—87; 11. Matthews, 26—28—25—79. A mixed (earn of Bulls Rugby players went to Flock House on Saturday afternoon, and after a well contested game. defeated Flock House by 8 points to 6. The | ground was very hard, and the weather j too hot for Rugby, while lew of tho Bulls ] players wore fit. Crosland and Sime scored trice for Bulls, Cutts converting tho latter’s try. Beilis scored twice for Flock House. Crosland and Cutts played well for the winners, Preston being unfit, and Pawson (who recently came out of hospital) being also off his game. Beilis proved a tower of strength to Flock House, his strong running and splendid handling of the ball being a feature of the game. Mr E. Westwood refereed. After the game the players were hospitably entertained, while _ several spectators were shown over the station and stock, and were greatly interested in the up-to-date methods of farming being taught to tho youths in training. Thoro was a large gathering at the opening of the Rangitikei Golf Club’s season on Saturday, several visitors being amongst the players in a mixed foursome. Mr and Mrs Sinclair, of the Palmerston North Club, proved tho winners. During the week-ond a Town v. Country cricket match was played on the Domain. Town winning by 37 runs. For the winners Meads was undefeated with 34 . runs to his credit, and Cutts made 17 and ■' 13. For Country Lunn made 27, and I*. ; Hart and K. Field 15 apiece. Amon left on Sunday for Rotorua and Auckland. During the week-end a number of relatives of Mr AVilliam Homes visited him at Parewanui, the occasion being his birthday. Mr Homes was tho recipient of a suitable gift, and received the good wishes of members of his family.
