GOES TOO FAST.
LABOUR'S YOUNG LEADER. Son of Lord Parmoor, who was once a true-blue Conservative, Sir Stafford Cripps, a comparatively recent convert to Labour, is far too much in a hurry for the veteran, Air J. H. Clynes, P.C., a former Labour Minister, and who has been in the movement all his life. Sir Stafford has devised a five-year plan for submission to the Socialist League Conference on May 25. Its principal objectives are the socialisation of land, finance and every important industry, a reduction of working hours, and an increase in the “dole” and old age pensions.
Mr Clynes condemns the programme as being too ambitious. The attempt to accomplish such a mass of reforms in five vears must fail, and would injure the legitimate Labour Party. The question whether it should cooperate with the Moscow Internationale threatens to split the Independent Labour Party. AVelsh Nationalists are considering a plan for Dominion status like Australia’s, Welsh being the official language. The schoolmasters condemned the wearing of coloured shirts for political reasons.
