EXPERIMENTAL FLIGHT.
TO-DAY’S TASMAN MAIL. SYDNEY, April 9. Popular appreciation of the air mail which is leaving to-morrow for New Zealand is testified to by the fact that the New Zealand Government office sold the whole issue of the New Zealand stamps received for return-paid letters. The office will open especially early to-morrow for the sale of another lot of stamps which is arriving by the Monowai. Among the articles being mailed is an autographed copy of the book “Hell’s Airport,” by an Auckland resident, Mr Errol Coote, which is addressed ho Lord Bledisloe. Speaking at Melbourne, the Director of Postal Services (Mr H. P. Brown) said that it was not the Government’s intention to participate in regular air mail services to New Zealand. Mr Ulm’s flight to-morrow was purely experimental. UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER. MR ULM’S INTENTIONS. Received April 10, 11 a.m. SYDNEY, April 10. Mr Ulm stated that he had received an unfavourable weather report, indicating bad weather and rain all the way to New Zealand, with poor visibilitv. He would make the flight even if "the conditions were not altogether ideal, but, if a very • adverse report was received to-day, naturally the departure would be postponed. Steady rain was falling in Sydney this morning. The Faith in Australia was due to leave Sydney for New Zealand this afternoon, a.rriving at New Plymouth about 3 o’clock to-morrow morning. New Zealand Air Force machines will then take the mail for distribution to Auckland and Wellington, and possibly Christchurch. The original consignment of New Zealand stamps forwarded to Australia totalled 9000, and a further 20,000 were dispatched in response to a cabled request.
