DOMINIONS’ CASE
OUTSPOKEN PRESS COMMENT,
BRITAIN AND QUOTAS
DISRAELI’S DAYS RECALLED
(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 7, 11.20 p.m. LONDON, April 6.
The Yorkshire Observer says: “It is curious that the Conservative Imperialists are returning to Disraeli’s idea that the colonies are a millstone round the neck of the Mother Country. The quota threat caused the greatest distress in New Zealand and we have still to learn the true facts about her reported offer of a free market for British goods. . . “Australia is preparing for a crisis by sending the Queensland Premier (Air Forgan Smith) to discuss meat. South Australia is also opposed to restriction, but Mr W. E. Elliot has emphasised that the Dominions must submit to a quota like the Argentine. If we seriously 7 hamper Dominion farming the repercussions will affect enormous British investments in the Dominions, who will also not continue to welcome British manufactures.’
