RANGITIKEI COUNTY.

BALANCE OF £21,000. MARTON, April 7. According to the financial statement placed before yesterday’s meeting of the Rangitikei County Council the financial year ended with a credit balance of £24,990 4s 9d, which-after payments made that day was reduced to £21,738 19s -3d.

A very sound, position is thus revealed and it would indicate (although figures were not produced to the meeting) that despite hard times the rates have come in very satisfactorily. In the two previous vears the credit balances were particularly high and on each occasion reduced rates were decided upon. There is no indication as yet as to what will be done • for the current year. During March no less than £24,360 0s 3d was collected in rates.
