THE CYCLIST IN TRAFFIC.
CHRISTCHURCH COMPLAINT. “Traffic control in this city is more or less of a joke,” said a member of the United Burgesses Association in Christchurch, when the question of bicycle control was under discussion. He pointed out that not only were cyclists a law unto themselves, but motorists also should be under stricter control. Motorists when held up by traffic inspectors pulled up right in the line of crossing pedestrian traffic. Mr G. E. Franklin suggested that the automatic signals system should bo extended, as it had proved a great success, not only at Cashel Street, but in other cities. It was decided to write to the City Council suggesting that cyclists should be brought under similar control to other traffic, and also that the automatic signal’system should be extended to all parts of the city.
