MANAWATU TROTS.

BIG FIXTURE AT AWAPUNI. HAROLD LOGAN’S FLYING MILE. ( By “Binocular.”) To-morrow’s annual fixture of the watu Trotting Club, which is to bo held at Awapuni—the original home of the harness game locally—was being awaited with interest by many enthusiasts. But that enthusiasm, has now become more widespread by reason of the presence of the Dominion champion Harold Logan, who will give an exhibition of trotting over a mile. In addition to being the greatest exponent of pacing in the Dominion, the Logan Pointer gelding was the victor of the match race over a mile and a half wherein the Australian champion Walla Walla figured on Wednesday, although the latter beat him narrowly over a male at the first meeting. . The presenco of the Dominion champion roinsman, F. J. Smith, of Auckland, who has been adding to his long list of successes on the Wanganui-llawera circuit prior coming to the Manawatu gathering, adds to the importance of the gathering. The prominent Canterbury mentors, J. .iryce and J. Donald, in addition to several otliers of the Dominion s best, are also represented and the class of horse which will compete is of a higher atanlard than usual. For the benefit of non-regular patrons of the sport the club has arranged for a broadcast of the various events, loud speakers being placed along the main stand. Proceedings will be entered upon at noon and the programme to be presented will be as under: 12 noon. AWAPUNI HANDICAP, of £55; unhoppled trotters; 3.51 class. One mile and a half. Black Native scr Native Maid scr Blue Blood scr Native Bird scr Gainsborough scr Ohincmutu scr Native Tree • scr Bell Heather 12 Native Gamo scr Earl Bingen 108 Black Native ran two good races at Wanganui and should be on the improve, while the fact that Ohinemutu hails from Bryce’s stable in Canterbury will attract him friends. Bell Heather and Earl Bingen represent the best class, but the latter is on a stiff mark. Those sought after may consequently be: 801 l Heather, Ohinemutu, Black Native. 12.40

LADIES’ BRACELET, of £55; 3.45 class. One mile and a half. Bara Gold scr Jester scr Diltest scr Jean Parrish scr

First Judges scr Orleigh Mills scr ' Florrio Real scr Shore Leave scr Goldspinner scr Tracy Locancla 12 Gamble scr Supertax 36 Guy Zolock scr Florrio Real and Goldspinnor perform- - ed well on the Wanganui-Hawera circuit. Shore Leave and Gamble are two eouthr erners of good reputation, while Jester’s . three seconds at Hawera indicate an early ‘ return to winning form. Guy Zolock, Supertax (a winner at Wanganui) and First Judge (L. Thomas’s only representative) will also have friends and in a , good betting field those strongest sup- ’ ported may prove to be : Jester, Supertax. First Judge. 1.20 P OH ANGINA HANDICAP, of £6O; 3.38 class. One mile and a half. Aerial Boy scr Golden Oaks 36 Peter’s Fault scr Janice 36 Arthur Chimes 36 Storm Queen 36 The mile and a half event attracted only six entrants, but it is a well balanced field. Peter’s Fault ran prominently at the recent Hutt Park fixture. Aerial Boy and Arthur Chimes will be bracketed and., judged on his second at Wanganui, the former is a likely improver. Storm Queen is a very solid sort and the position of favourite may be contested by : Peter’s Fault, Janice, Aerial Boy. 2. MANAWATU CUP, of £110; 4.46 class. Two miles. Hard Words scr Nelson’s Chum 36 Paul Drusus scr Special Sun 36 Smoke Screen 12 Tcri Kingi 36 Highland Derby 24 Belle o’ Mine 43 Lady Author 24/ Paul Drusus and Hard Words, representatives of the Bryce and Donald (Belfast) stables respectively, are two useful performers on the front mark, the latter , having been a winner at Hawera. Smoke Screen was a winner at Wanganui, while Highland Derby ran a second at Hawera. Should he leave the mark smartly Highland Derby may be' hard to dispose of. Nelson’s Chum, who shares the 36yds. mark with Teri Kingi, ran a third at Hawora. Special Sun almost invariably runs an honest race, while the back marker Bello o’ Mine, is a past winner of the Manawatu Cup. With plenty of room for a surprise backers may select their favourite from: Smoke Screen, Hard Words, Paul Drusus. EXHIBITION BY CHAMPION. Immediately following the Manawatu Cup will be the exhibition by Harold Logan, who will be paced over the distance by either gallopers or trotters, and no doubt many lovers of horses will make a point of being present to witness a, real champion in action. 2.40 LONGBURN HANDICAP, of £55; 3.6 class. One mile and a quarter. Bara Gold scr Jean Parrish scr Diltest scr Orleigh Mills scr First Judge scr Shore Leave scr Florrio Real scr Tracey Locanda scr Goldspinner scr Liability 24 Gamble scr Supertax 24 I Guy Zolock scr Greatfast 36 I The selection of the favourite for the f Longburn Handicap will be largely gov- [ erned by the showing made by the can- | didates at their earlier starts. Fresh I horses include Greatfast and Liability and, I failing a definite line on the form from | the earlier races, there should be support l Supertax, Greatfast, Guy Zolock. | 3.20 I MCDONALD HANDICAP, of £7O; unf hoppled trotters; 5.5 class. I Blue Blood scr Rod Hum scr I 801 l Heather scr Tasman Flight 36 f Black Native scr Arapai 72 Native Maid scr Earl Bingen 84 Native Game scr Guy o’ Mine 84 f Ohinemutu scr Amy Etawah 96 [ A similar situation prevails in the I McDonald Handicap, an event for unliopI pled trotters, wherein Amy Etawah, Guy o’ Mine Earl Bingen, Arapai, Tasman Flight and Red Huia are fresh horses. I Fading other influences,■ those sought after may prove to be: Tasman Flight, Guy o’ Mine, Earl Bingen

DASH HANDICAP, of £55; 2.24 class. Ono mile. Peter’s Fault scr Lislca 24 Arthur Chimes 24 Storm Queen 24 Bolinda King 24 Oro’s Pride 48 The Dash Handicap is over a scurry distance and a smart beginning -will materially improve the prospects of any candidate. Two nicelv handicapped performers who should be close to favouritism when tho totalisator closes are: Bolinda King and Lislea. 4.30. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, 0 f £7O; 2.56 class. Ono mile and a quarter. Guymond scr Highland Dorby 24 Oro s Pride scr Lady Author 24 Paul Drusus scr Special Sun 36 Daddy Longlegs 12 Tori Kingi 36 Smoko Screen 12 Failing an earlier success which would make their prospects loss favourable by reason of the additional handicap entailed, there should be good support for the majority of those carded for the final event.
