LOCAL AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
It is believed that tho 1933 Nciv Zealand amateur wrestling' championships will bo hold early in October at Wellington. The Palmerston North Association has decided to make next Avcek a gala Aveck of wrestling, combining the local amateur championships Avith a big professional bout. Monday night next, at tho Opera House. Avill see tho heats and semi-finals in all Avoights by all comers contested, leaving the finals only to bo decided on Tuesday night. These will serve as preliminaries to tho big main bout betAvcen Hal Rumberg, AA’ho so far has not been defeated in Nciv Zealand, and Jake Patterson, Avhoso colourful AATcstliug has thrilled the crOAvds here this season. Rumbcrg Avcighs about two pounds more than Patterson, and is. quite used to the all-in methods of tho big Irish-American, so Avith such a splendid match and tho best, of the amateurs fighting for the honour of being champion with a trip in vicAv as an extra inducement, this should ho equal to the best programme of -wrestling CA'or seen hero. Patterson has never yet failed to please his audiences, even though they do not ahvays approve of his tactics.
RUMBERG BEATS OSWALD. Per Press Association. GREYMOIJTH, Sept. 17. In a Avrestling match, Romberg defeated Oswald. OsAvald pinned his opponent in the third round after flying tackles, and Rumberg evened in the fifth Avith a flying body scissors and press. Rumberg, after using a series of headlocks in the sixth, picked up OsAvald in a leg hold and threAV him in a front slam.
