(From Oar Own Correspondent.) NEWBURY. Aug. 17. Last night the Newbury Ilall was parked for the annual school concert. Tho proceedings opened with a trombone solo by Ron Woods, accompanied by Pat Collins, and other features of Ihe programme were: Plnyette, by Infant Room, a scene from ‘Christopher Robin”, tak ; ng part were Pooh Bear, Newton Wheeler; Pooh Rabbit, Joan ICrivan; Christopher Robin, Peter Wood; Rabbits, Garth Death, Sclwyn Purton, Melville Wheeler, Muriel Morris, Allan Goodman, Arthur Mugford. The senior room performed in a very creditable manner the operetta “Princess Chrysanthemum”; the dresses were very pretty and the final scone called forth much praise and admiration. Despite very heavy colds, tho pupils played and sang their parts well, the soloists receiving well deserved acclamation. The parts taken were:—Princess Chrysanthemum, June Wheeler; To-to, Juno Wheeler; Yum Yum. Morris Little; Du du, Dorothy Knight; Tu lip, Sylvia Hansen; Fairy Moonbeam, Joan Death; Emperor What for Whi, Ron Wood; Prince So Tru, Jack Burberry; Prince So Sli, Arran Collins; Top Not, Betty Linklatcr; Saucer Eyes. Lloyd Death; Cushion Bearer, Len Knight; Sprites’ Ballet, Paul Callaway, A. Gcange, H. Longford, R. Dalefield, G. Meehan, K. Campbell; Geisha Ballet, M. Paul, M. Sheehan, M. McHugh, C. Drew, R. Drew, L. Wheeler; pages, M. Lovelock, I, Linklater. After the performance Mr G. Ilan sen, chairman of tho School Committee, congratulated the headmaster and assistant on the splendid performance and behavinm of tho pupils. He thanked all those who had so willingly helped and special thanks were given to Mrs Little, who had acted as accoinpaniste and supervised the orchestra which consisted of Mrs Ross (Wellington) flute; Miss Doherty and Mr C. Anderson, violins. Ron Wood, on behalf of the performers and tho School Committee, presented Mrs Little with a largo box of chocolates. The chairman then presented the prizes won at the mangold competition, remarking that he was surprised to sec such splendid results and ho hoped that many pupils would take part, next year. The prizes wore: A. Gcange 1, R. Dalefield 2, G. Wild 3. After supper tho floor was cleared and dancing was carried on until 2 a.m. ’lhe music was supplied by Messrs I*. Collins, S. Wood, R. Wood, C. Anderson and Mrs Little. Mrs and Miss Ross, of Wellington, have been the guests of Mrs Little, Newbury. Mr and Mrs J. Linklatcr are at present in Christchurch. Mrs Hamlin is unfortunately confined to her bed and wo all wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs F. raid has returned from a brief stay in Wellington. Local residents arc pleased to see. Mrs S. Morris about again.
