INCOME TAX RATE

INCREASE UNLIKELY. ADJUSTMENTS TO BE MADE. (Bv Telegraph—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. As the proposals submitted to the House to-night by Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates are estimated to yield £140,000 more than the Government intended taxation to contribute towards the prospective revenue shortage for the next financial year, it is now unlikely tliat there will be no increases in the rates of income tax. x The question was raised with Mr Coates, who replied that it was the intention of the Government to make some adjustments to the income tax schedules, but these would not affect the range of incomes.
