PERSONAL.

Rev. Joseph Carlisle, evangelist for the Baptist Union, left for Auckland by last night’s Limited express. Mr E. Fisher, engineer to the Palmerston North River Board, has returned after a holiday of three months spent in Australia. In the House of Representatives yesterday Mr It. McKeen was granted leave of absence for the remainder of the session on account of illness. Mr C. Girling Butcher, Chief Inspector of Fire Brigades, arrived in Palmerston North to-day to undertake a Government inspection of the Palmerston North Fire Brigade. The Russell Street School Committee last evening passed a resolution of condolence with Mr C. Sweetman, a member, in tlie bereavement he had suffered- through the loss of his mother.

Mr P. McWhannell, of Hataitai, Wellington, has received a cable from liis son, Mr P. A. McWhannell, that he has been accepted by the Royal Air Force in England, and will join up with his unit at Uxbridge on March 3.

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Presbytery of Wanganui, lield at Marton, a communication was received from the home mission committee stating that the following appointments were being made: Mr G. Wood, to Hunterville; Mr Paterson (divinity student), to Upper Aramoho, and Mr A. Fotlieriiigham, to Manawatu South.

Dr. A. B. AVildman, who has been appointed lecturer in zoology at Arictoria University College, arrived in Auckland this week from England. Dr. AVildman, who takes the place of the late Dr. F. G. Haskell, comes from Leeds University. He graduated there as a Bachelor of Science, and later became a member of the staff and took his doctorate in philosophy. At the time of his appointment to A T ictoria University College lie was the holder of a research fellowship.
