PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Feb. 8.
The position of the local unemployed, and especially married men with families, has been brought under the notice of the member for the district (lion. E. A. Ransom) by the Alavor (Air J. D. WiLon), who interviewed Air Ransom in Wellington last week. In fine but threatening weather the Pahiatua Cricket Club virtually started its season on Monday, having played bi'it one game previously and that, several months ago. The match was against a strong Brewery train which lias met. with outstanding success in its many games this season and the opposition proved to be just too formidable for the town side which was sadly in need of practice. The visitors won by 11 runs on t.he first innings in an exciting match, characterised by brilliant bowling feats on the part of J. Holtham (Alangatainoka), 9 for 30 and C. Irving (Pahiatua), 8 for 33. Brewery’s first innings realised 121 and the second 47. Pahiatua made 110' and 38.
