FEILDING.

BOWLING. One of the most pleasant afternoon gatherings this summer took place on the Feilding howling green yesterday, when four rinks, two each from the Wellington and Hutt Bowling Clubs, called in for the friendly bi-annual match with Feilding while en route to Wanganui for the Duthie Cup match. The green was in splendid order and good play was seen, a tricky southerly wind interfering somewhat with the visitors. The local rinks were very successful against the fromidable opposition, coming out the winners on the aggregate by 78 points to 71. On their arrival the visitors were welcomed by Mr J. S. Tingey, president of the Feilding Club, who expressed the pleasure it gave the home members to receive the visit of the Wellington bowlers. Mr Hodgin.s, of the Hutt Club and a member of the Dominion Bowling Council, thanked Mr Tingey and his fellow members for the hospitality accorded.

Details of the games are as under, Feilding rinks being mentioned first.— Nesbit, Bramwell, Wilkinson, Moore (skip) 14 v. Ledger, Bennett, Potter, Dymock (skip), Wellington Club, 17. A large parade of Cubs, Scouts and Rovers of the Feilding Boy Scout movement assembled at the Manchester Street School, last evening, for the purpose of making presentations to Cubmistress E. Geary and Scoutmaster Street who are shortly to be married. .Mr C. S. Jeffs presided, and there were also present Messrs A. C. Buist, K. M. Little (Citizens’ Committee), Miss Nancy Wilson, of Bulls, Commissioner and Miss Chalmers, _of London, an officer of the Girl Guide j movement.

Addressing the gathering, the chairman referred to the splendid service rendered the Scout movement by the guests, and recalled how the movement developed under the guidance of such greatly admired leaders. It was Miss Wilson who had urged the speaker to secure the services of young ladies to take charge of the Cubs, and Mr Buist was happy to acknowledge that the Cubs prospered at once immediately Misses Geary and Young took charge. The movement owed ’a great deal to Miss Geary and Mr Street, and lie felt it must be somewhat unique in the history of the Scout organisation of

New Zealand for Scoutmaster and Cubmistress to come together as had happened in the case of iFeilding’s leaders.

Congratulations were offered by all speakers, both Miss Wilson and Miss Chalmers joining and associating themselves with the praise that had been offered to the guests. Air Buist, on behalf of the Cubs, Scouts and members of the committee, presented the guests of the evening with a handsome oak clock bearing a silver inscription, and this was a signal for hearty applause and the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.”

On behalf of the troop of Rovers, Rover ALilner presented a beautiful hearth rug and, as a special gift from herself. Miss Wilson presented a framed photograph of the Chief Scout taken at his home in Engalnd. The gifts were suitably acknowledged by Scoutmaster Street and Aliss Geary. Alore cheers followed and the singing of the National Anthem brought the formal part of the programme to a close, after which supper was dispensed and a convivial half-hour spent ! bv those present.
