’PLANE CATCHES FIRE.

Received February 9. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 8. Four were killed when a Royal Air Force plane exercising at Salisbury-met a heavy ground mist and struck a tree, smashing the petrol tank, which caught fire before the occupants could' escape. Aircraftsman Hipwell, who -was thrown clear from the rear of the bomber, emerged in the mist half dazed. His face was blackened, his eyebrows singed and the upper half of his uniform burnt. He broke the news to two farmers that his four companions were burning to death a.nd cried: “For God’s sake, come quickly.” The victims were flying officer Pilcher, Sergeant Allen, Corporal Smith, and Aircraftsman Sholl. The farmers rushed to the scene and found that the roaring flames precluded the removal of the bodies until only the framework remained. The "Air Force casualties total seven since January.
