TOKOMARU.
(From Our Owii Correspondent.) TOKOMARU, Fob. 9.
In the early hours of Saturday morning' a house occupied by Mr L. Peach was completely destroyed by fire, the occupants having to make a hurried exit, losing practically everything. The house was the property of the Joseph Liggins Estate, by whom Mr Peach is employed as a sharemilker. Tho School Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, Mr T. M. Ryder presiding. In his report tho head teacher stated that tho roll number was 91, consisting of 53 boys and 38 girls, thus maintaining tho attendance of last year. It was decided that tho annual picnic be held locally, and that the school be closed for the occasion. The spot chosen for the picnic has been kindly loaned by Mr W. R. Kelly, and is situated on the river bank a short distance above the bridge over the Tokoinaru River.
An exceptionally .good artesian boro has recently been completed on the property of Mr J. R. Moody, aJ 9o\v of 25 gallons per minute having been secured, at a depth of 500 feet. The white butterfly has made its appearance hero recently, and as in other parts is doing extensive damage to vegetable gardens. A cricket match is to be played on the domain during tho week-end between tho P.D.C. team of Palmerston North and the local team.
