AINSLIE SHIELD MATCH. Requiring five points on the final heads of two games to avert defeat, the Palmerston North Bowling Club’s two rinks holding the Ainslie Shield managed to score six points against two challenging rinks from Manawatu Club, yesterday afternoon, and retained the trophy by the narrow margin of one point. In one game Boon scored four against King and in the other Patou got two against Kershaw. Victory seemed assured for Manawatu, but faulty tactics in one game largely contributed to their defeat. The scores and teams were, Palmerston North players being mentioned first :■—- Moclian, Goldfinch, Simmons, Baton (skip) 24 v. Barnes, Oxenham, Gilbert, Kershaw (skip), 18.
Morris, Gooding, Jones, Boon • (skip) 14 v. Low, Cockburn, Gerrand, King (skip) 19.
