PRICES EASIER AT ADDINGTON. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 8. Entries were slightly larger than last week at to-day’s Addington market, and there was a slight easing in prices in most sections. Store Sheep.—Outside districts provided most of the entry of adult sheep. Young ewes and forward wethers sold well, but ether classes draggingly. Good four sis and eight-tooth Romney cross wethers, 10s 3d to 13s; good six and eight-tooth halfbred, to 9s 9d; ordinary halfbred, 6s to 8s; extra good two-tooth Romney cross ewes, to 15s 8d: good two-tooth Romney cross owes, to 13s; good four-tooth halfbred, to 14s; good six and eight-tooth halfbred, 10s 6d; aged, to 2s sd. Store Lambs.—A heavy entry, but the buying power was weaker in accordance with the reduced export rates by about one shilling a head. Forward m.s. lambs, 10s to 11s 6d; medium m.s., 8s 6d to 9s 9d; average m.s., 7s to 8s 3d; cull, 5s to 6s; ordinary wether, 6s 6d to 7s; medium owe, to 9s 6d; ordinary owe, to 7s 3d. Fat Lambs. —4400 were penned. Heavy lambs were easier by about Is 6d a head, and medium woights by a shilling, but lighter sorts were keenly taken by exporters. Extra prime heavy lambs sold to 17s 4d; prime heavy, 14s to 16s; medium, 11s 6d to 13s 6d; light, 9s 6d to lls. Fat Sheep.—4 800 were penned. Light wethers and ewes were easier by Is to Is 6d a head, and heavy wethers by up to one shilling. It was an excellent quality yarding. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 18s 7d; prime heavy, 16s to 17s 6d; medium weight price, 13s 6d to 15s 6d; ordinary, lls 6d to 13s; light, 9s 6d to lls; extra prime heavy ewes, to 12s 4d; prime heavy, 9s 6d to lls 6d; medium weight, prime, 7s 6d to 9s 6d; light and ordinary, 5s to 7s.

Fat Cattle.—4o9 head wore penned. The sale showed little change on last week’s low rates. Best beef made up to 20s a 1001 b; good. 17s to 19s; heavy, 15s 6d to 17s 6d; medium quality, 13s 6d to 15s 6d; and rough and inferior, 7s to 12s per 1001 b. Extra primo heavy steers sold. to £9 2s 6d; prime heavy, £6 to £8; prime medium weight, £5 5s to £6 15s; light and ordinary, £2 12s 6d to £5; extra prime heifers, to £6 17s 6d; prime, £3 15s to £5 10s; light and medium, £2 5s to £3 12s 6d; extra primo cows, to £6 2s 6d; primo. £3 5s to £4 15s; light and medium, £1 10s to £3.

Fat Pigs.—A smaller yarding and a slightly better sale. Choppers made 30s to £2 13s 6d. and baconcrs 32s 6d to £2 13s -6d: average price per lb, 3|d to 3Jd. Porkers, 18 s 6d to 27s 6d; average per lb, 3jd to 4id.

JOHNSONVILLE SALE. Prices at Johnsonville yesterday were a shade firmer. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered a smaller yarding than usual of all classes of stock. The cattle yarding mot with a keen demand at prices a little firmer than last week’s offerings. The sheep yarding was smaller than usual, and a total clearance was effected at late rates. LEVIN SALE. At the Levin sale on Tuesday there was a good yarding of sheep and pigs and a medium yarding of cattle. Competition was keen, and the bulk of the yarding was cleared at late rates. MARTON SALE. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report having a heavy yarding of sheep at the Marton sale on Tuesday. The entry comprised 4500, mostly lambs, and although some excellent quality lambs came forward the drop in fat prices had a marked effect on the sale, as prices were considerably lower than those obtained at their previous sale. There was keen competition on a nice line of very forward woolly b.f. lambs from Turakina Valley, which realised 10s Bd, but w.f. wether lambs of good quality met a dragging sale. Cull lambs, however, were keenly competed for by dairy farmers and sold much better in comparison than the good lambs. They quote as follows : —Best woolly b.f. lambs, to 10s 3d; medium lots, to 8s 6d; best w.f. wether lambs, 8s Id to 8s 3d; medium, 6s Id to 7s 3d; smaller lots, 2s 6d to 4s lOd; straight lines of f.¥ir' ewe lambs. Is mark from 8s 6d to 9s 9d ; small ditto to 6s; fattening ewes to 3s 8d; low-conditioned sorts, 2s; fat wethers, lls; weaner pigs, 6s 6d to 8s; smaller sorts, 4s to 5s 6d. HAWKE’S BAY SALE. Prices were lower generally in the fat store cattle section at Stortford Lodge yesterday. Bidding was not very brisk. Two lines bullocks were passed early in the sale at £7 5s and £7. Tho top price realised was £7 4s for a line of four heavyweight Polled Angus bullocks, compared with a top price of £7 10s last week. Fat cows were in fair demand, but prices generally were lower. One prime heavy Hereford cow made £5 ss, but it was an exceptional beast. There was a fair entry of heifers, prices being below last week’s top figure of £6 7s 6d. Fat cattle: Prime heavyweight bullocks, £6 2s 6d to £7 ss; others, £4 to £6; prime heavy cows, £5 5s from £3 12s 6d ; others £2 16s Is to £3 14s 6d; heifers, £2 10s to £5 7s; dairy sorts, up. to £2; vealers to £l 5s 6d. Store sheep: 6-Year ewes, 8s 9d; 4 and 5-year ewes, 7s to 6s 9d; 2-tooth wethers, 10s 4d; 9s 6d; lambs, 7s to 9s 6d; 200 2-tooth ewes, from Morea Station, lbs; 190 2-tooth ewes, a fine lino from Ben Lomond, 16s 4d; 179 2-tooth owes, 16s; 131 2-tooth ewes, 14s; 232 2-tooth ewes from Taurapa Station, 17s. Fat stock were inclined to be easier, but met a ready sale. Ewes, 6s 6d to 7s; lambs, lls 6d to 12s lOd; wethers, lls to 13s 9d; breeding ewes, 8s 4d; 4-5-year ewes, 8s to 8s 9d; 4-6-year owes, 9s 4d to lls 3d; m.a. ewes, 9s 9d; f.f. ewes 4s lid to 5s lid.

EXPORT OF APPLES. FIRST SHIPMENT BY TAMAROA. The first shipment of apples for the 1933 season lett Wellington in the liner Tamaroa. The vessel, which is due at Southampton, has on board 13,600 boxes for that port. The next shipment will leave in the liner Port Wellington, which will sail from Wellington on February 17 with 37,000 boxes for London, where she is due on April 1. The Fruit Export Control Board has arranged shipping space allotments for 326,050 boxes of apples in nine ships sailing up to March 23. The list is as follows :

WELLINGTON WOOL SALE. TOTAL OFFERING 30,175 BALES. WELLINGTON, Feb. 8. The revised catalogues of wool to be offered at the third Wellington sale, which will start in the Town Hall at 2 p.tn. to-morrow, make a total of 30,175 bales, which is slightly above the limit fixed by the N.Z. Wool Committee. The actual number of lot 3, 3102, is, however, well below the committee’s limit of 3500. The catalogues in order of sale are as follow : Brokers. B ales - N.Z. Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., have received from London the following cabled advice, dated February 7:—New Zealand butter, Sos-81s per cwt. New Zealand cheese, white, 48s per cwt; coloured, 58s. Both markets quiet but firm. The New Zealand Producers’ Co-opera-tive Marketing Association’s weekly cabled market report from London, dated February 7, is as follows: “Butter: Market steady, New Zealand finest 80s. first grade 795, unsalted 803 to 82s; Danish, 110 sto 112 s. Cheese : Market steady. New Zealand white 48s, coloured 58s; Canadian white and coloured 58s to 66s. ’’

WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Thirteen sales, of which three were made late on Tuesday, wore recorded yesterday on tho Wellington Stock Exchange, this being tho best turnover for a fortnight or more. The market was fairly active and prices were mostly firm. There was an improved demand yesterday for Government securities, prices quoted being fully firm. The 5$ per cent, s’tock, September, 1937, was traded at £lOl ss, an advance of 5s on Tuesday’s deal. Banks wero active and firm. New Zealand advanced to a sale at 455. More wero wanted at 44s 6d, but sellers held for 45s 6d. Commercial of Australia ordinary had sales at 14s 7d and 14s Bd, with closing buyers at 14s 6d, sellers 14s 9d. E.S. and A Banks were a shade firmer at £4 Bs, sellers asking 2s better. National of New Zealand improved 6d to 69s 6d, without drawing sellers; National of Australasia, £5 paid, advanced Is 6d to £5 12s 6d, sellers holding for £5 15s. There was a reported sale late on Tuesday of Queensland National Bank at £5. In the financial section Dalgety’s eased 4s to £7. Goldsbrough, Morts were 2d down at 23s sd, sellers asking 245. New Zealand and River Plates had a sale at 21s, and New Zealand Guarantee Corporation were done at ss. Insurance shares continued a firm market. South British were traded at 58s 9d, and more were wanted at 58s 6d. Queenslands were 6d up at 49s 6d, and Nationals firmed a point to 14s Id. New Zealand.? were wanted at 445, ex dividend, and sellers of A.P.A.’s were asking 9s 6d. In the breweries section Staples eased to 20s 6d, following payment of final dividend of 6d a share. T oot.h’s Brewery wero traded late on Tuesday at 34s 9d.' Carltons wero wanted at 335, and sellers of New Zealand? wore asking 28s 6d. Miscellaneous shares were, very firm. British' Tobaccos advanced' to 32s 9d, without response. Mining shares wore firm and active, particularly Waihis, which moved up to sales at 22s and 22s 6d (2). More wore wanted at 22s 4d, sellers holding for 22s 9d. Okaritos had a sale at 9s 3d.
