WANGANUI PRESBYTERY.

MEETING AT AIARTON. The AVanganui Presbytery met at Alarton on Tuesday. Rev. L. G. B. Whitehead, moderator, conducted devotions and presided. Apologies for absence were received from Rev. H. Beggs (Wanganui) and Air Governlock (Turakina). Rev. J. A. Ryburn, of Eltham, was welcomed and associated. The Presbytery passed resolutions of sympathy with relatives of the following, lately deceased: Rev. Professor AV. Hewitson (for many years master of Knox College, Dunedin); Rev. R. AI. Ryburn (a former minister of St. Paul’s, AVanganui), and Rev. G. Ireland, for some years homo missionary at Bulls. The Presbytery also passed a special resolution of apprecnation of the services of Air AV. R. Alartin at Aramoho and of Air D. B. Stewart at Hunterville. . . A report on tlio lust year s statistics showed that during the year 229 communicant members had joined the congregations of the presbytery, 136 of these by profession of faith. Rev. G. T. Brown proposed the adoption of an overture to the forthcoming General Assembly, with a view to establishing a board of friendly relations with sister churches. In this way it was thought that a good deal of denominational overlapping and unfortunate competition might be eliminated and the- work of the various Christian churches carried on more unitedly, efficiently and economically. The subject naturally evoked considerable discussion, and eventually it was resolved to transmit the overture to the assembly without attaching any recommendation. Rev. Air Brown was appointed to support the overture in Assembly. The Presbytery approved the application for long-service diplomas made on behalf of the following Sunday school teachers, all of St. Paul’s: Aliss Janet Brechin, over 40 years a teacher at St. John’s, Campbell Street; Aliss AVarwick, 43 years’ service; Air AV. Bell 37 years; Aliss Bridge, of St. Paul’s Sunday school; Air John Alacmillan and Airs AV. J. Treadwell (of St. John’s Hill school).
