RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS.

STATMENT CORRECTED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON,. Dec. 2. Relative to a telegram from Christchurch published on December 1, the secretary of the Rhodes Scholarships Selection Committee, acting under instructions from the chairman, His Excellency the Governor-General, states that the telegram is quite inaccurate and calculated to give altogether a wrong impression of a meeting that was really private and was ' perfectly harmonious'. The ultimate decision of tho committee was unanimous. In view of the information which was before the members, tho statement that “there was no lack of suitable candidates” was at least surprising. It is tho intention of the committee to publish the reasons that led to tho decision of this year’s meeting.
