The Wellington Retail Traders’ Association has forwarded a letter to the Prime Minister suggesting that the Government should lift the unemployment wage tax for the month of December to enable the people to add a little to their personal comforts for Christmas. The association states that the loss of one month’s return cannot seriously affect the Unemployment Fund of the country, and the temporary relief will assist the people to begin the New l r ear with more confidence. The concert parties and bands, which tour the world under the auspices of the Young Australia League, have raised largs sums for charitable purposes. The band, which will visit Palmerston North at the New Year, lias already raised several thousand pounds for hospitals and charitable institutions in Australia. During the war the hands raised £10,000; one which visited Canada was responsible for £SOOO being contributed to the patriotic fund of that Dominion, and £IOOO was obtained for the Anzac subway in New York when that city was visited.
