WOODYILLE, Nov. 23. Mrs J. S. Smith, Papatawa is visiting Auckland. Miss G. Taylor, who has boon visiting Hastings, has returned to Woodville. Mrs A. H. Vilo, of Nelson, and formerly of Woodvillo, paid a . short visit on Tuesday to Woodvillo on route to Hastings, where she will be spending a short holiday with her daughter, Mrs D. M. Mclntosh. At tho recent musical examinations held in Masterton and conducted by Dr. Vaughan Thomas under the auspices of the Trinity College of Music, _ London, Miss A. Wilton was successful in passing Associate, A.T.C.L. Miss Gwen Gilbert, older daughter of Mr and Mrs W. G. Gilbert, of Pinfold Road, Woodvillo, and a student of tho Wellington Girls’ College, has won tho Royal Empire Society’s essay prizo in the B division. Mr B. Hayes, of Woodville, met with a serious accident, resulting in the loss of his left eye, while working on a farm near Hamilton. Ho was cutting a barberry hedge, when a thorn entered tho optic. Mr Hayes is a present an inmate of the Hamilton Hospital. The Woodvillo corps of the Salvation Army held their young peoplo’s anniverstry on Sunday and Monday. Tho meetings on Sunday were conducted by StaffCaptain Davies, of the Wellington training college staff. Sunday afternoon was devoted to prize giving, after which the children gave several songs. Upwards of sixty pfizes woro distributed. On Monday evcninii tho young people gave a demonstration to a packed hall, there being standing room only for many of those present.
