FLYING FOR THE MASSES.

CHEAPER MACHINES PREDICTED Received November 24, 8.50 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 23. Aeroplanes cheaper than motor cars will be available in 1933, says the Daily Express’s aviation expert. It is estimated that lot),000 young men and women would be flying if it were as cheap as motoring. The engine of a light aircraft, the expert says, costs • £3OO. A motor cycle engine could be fitted for £25. Aircraft have already been tested which are marketable by mass production probably at £IOO each. Admittedly these craft would be unsuitable for a long distance, but suitable for short business and pleasure journeys. Five firms are developing aircraft at prices rauging from £l5O to £3lO compared with the cheapest now marketed at £550, the expert adds.
